Jet engine fails on runway – A330

On Monday 24 June 2013 Simon Lowe filmed this video at Manchester Airport in the UK of an Airbus A330 having an engine failure just before take off. The plane was destined for Dominican Republic.

The aircraft yawed due to asymmetric thrust from the one good engine. You can see the pilot using rudder to correct. The crew were quick to respond with the reverse thrust and safely brought the plane to a standstill before the end of the runway. The incident happened before rotation speed and the pilot could abort the take off. Should it happened above V1, they would have been committed on the take off and continue to climb at a safe rate to safe altitude to return and land on one engine. Emergency vehicles were on the scene quick and passengers were all safe. Job well done.
